Closing Today! Summer Vacation Scholarship – Explosives Performance Assessment

Mining3 is offering a scholarship over the summer for a 3rd year (or higher) Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering student.  Expressions of interest are closing today (30 November)!

The scholarship is available to a student commencing in November/December 2016 and running to February/March 2017. Open for applications and expression of interest until 30 November 2016. Note that the application period may close earlier if a suitable applicant is found sooner.

Applicants at least be in their third year of university studying Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering. Interest, experience and knowledge in photonics and fibre optic systems will be highly beneficial.

The successful applicant will be offered a position for approximately 10 weeks to conduct research under scholarship from Mining3 during the summer university holiday period. The successful applicant will be based at Mining3’s head office at Pinjarra Hills. Remuneration will be dependent on the applicants experience and performance and will be approximately $300 per week.

Graduate Software Developer Position Available

Centor ( has a graduate software developer position available. This is a full-time position based at Eagle Farm and will commence early January 2017.

We are seeking a bright graduate software developer to take over development and maintenance of our ERP system, Microsoft Dynamics Ax. Our installation of Dynamics Ax is heavily customised and we currently use it to automate our core processes end to end, from having our dealers create quotes for customized door openings in a web front-end, to forecasting inventory consumption, all the way through to automating various CNC machines and PLC controlled robots to produce the order.

Their primary responsibilities will be:

  • Design and develop new modifications to Microsoft Dynamics Ax
  • Provide support to existing code base including maintenance, enhancements or bug fixing
  • Facilitate creation and documentation of the system design and functional specifications
  • Creating reports using SQL queries and Excel, and eventually, migrate reports to a new reporting package
  • Application support to end users

Experience is desired in the following areas

  • Developing software in an object-oriented programming language (C# preferred)
  • Web development
  • Writing SQL queries and stored procedures
  • Using version control (GIT/SVN/TFS)

The programming language used in Dynamics Ax is X++, and it is quite similar to C# and Java. The X++ programming language is unique to Dynamics Ax, so no previous experience with it is expected. All necessary training courses for Microsoft Dynamics Ax will be provided.

Summer Software Development Internship with Oracle Labs

A 3-month Internship position is available at Oracle Labs this summer to work on a new project — Transpilation of C/C++ to Dlang or Rust. The successful candidate will be experienced with C/C++, building C/C++ code bases in a Linux/Unix environment, and troubleshooting compilation issues. An ideal candidate will also have experience with benchmarking, profile guided optimization, modern systems programming languages (e.g Dlang, Rust), implementation of compilers, programming languages, and/or static analysis tools.

The aim of the project is to assess the runtime performance of modern systems programming languages (e.g Dlang, Rust) compared to C/C++, as applied to databases and/or operating systems. The project will involve performing benchmarking on synthetic performance test suites and representative open source software, built with a range of compilers. Comparisons may also include optimization, including profile guided optimization, to compare the best performance attainable with these techniques.

Oracle Labs

Oracle Labs is the research arm for Oracle. We focus on Program Analysis as it applies to a variety of domains, including bug-checking, security analysis, enhancing productivity, testing and more. The team is best known for its research on static code analysis that led to scalable and precise algorithms embedded in the Parfait bug-checking tool. For more information please refer to

Essential criteria:

  • Demonstrable strong programming skills in C/C++;
  • Demonstrable capacity to work independently and collaboratively;
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

Desired criteria:

  • Experience benchmarking C/C++ programs;
  • Experience using profiling tools and profile guided optimization;
  • Knowledge and experience with internals of a compiler (e.g., Clang), and/or static analysis tools;

FEET Mentoring Program at Transurban for Female Engineering & Technology Students

Transurban offers a mentoring program for female engineering and technology university students (Females Excelling in Engineering and Technology – FEET).

The program involves a female student spending approximately 5 days at Transurban, working closely with a key mentor and observing and discussing the realities of the profession. The intention behind the program is to encourage females into the profession by providing them with support and experience even before they graduate. Our next intake will be over the winter break in June/July.

CEED Projects – New Projects Added and Oracle Projects Closing Soon!

New CEED projects have been added and Oracle projects are closing Sunday!

Project Timing – summer vacation + semester 1 2017 (for enrolment/assessment – semester 1)


Applications for all Oracle projects close: midnight 16 October

Note for all Oracle Labs applicants – only 4 projects will proceed, based on best match between students interest & skills/experience.

Oracle Labs applicants need STRONG programming skills + solid knowledge in data structures & algorithms (with a 6 of better in relevant subject/s).

Please only apply for your top 4 Oracle Labs project preferences.


TO APPLY for projectsinterested students must register and apply via CEED’s website - before midnight on the relevant application closing date.  Applicants must also upload their resume including student ID & academic transcript/s (undergrad + Masters if applicable), before the closing date.  Students can upload their resume separately to applying for project/s.
